Karen set up Sum and Substance Accounting in September 2014 after a successful 22 year career in forensic accounting, public accounting and industry. She recognized a need for professional accounting and advisory services by small and medium-sized businesses to help them get to the next level. Her goal is to provide value to business owners by helping them track and understand the financial health of their companies, and in doing so, find ways to reduce costs. Karen is an advocate for the use of technology to enhance business efficiency.
Karen is also passionate about forensic accounting. She specializes in conducting reviews of complex issues with detailed research and turning them into logical, clear format through the use of simple language and visual aid tools. Her casework includes fraud and other white collar investigations, financial reviews and inquiries, income loss determination and regulatory investigations. In connection with this work, Karen has conducted interviews, prepared witness statements, affidavits, reports and discovery briefs for civil and criminal proceedings. She has also provided testimony in court proceedings.
Karen is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. She also holds a designation in Investigation and Forensic Accounting.
